Meet Jhankaar
Jhankaar is a band devoted to folk/classical/devotional music rendered in traditional Indian ragas and beats, peppered with instrumental and vocal ensembles influenced by world music. Housed in Austin - a techie town and the world capital of live music - Jhankaar "bytes" a.k.a, band members specialize in vocal music, keyboard, percussion, and string instruments. Jhankaar has performed in various Austin events - Keep Austin Spicy at Ladybird Johnson Park, Bengali New Year Festival at Zilker Park, and the Pecan Street Festival to name a few - and received much appreciation and encouragement from an eclectic audience. Jhankaar looks forward to continuing their musical journey with the Ishtar Project.
Meet Sumukhi and Sean McCoy Kirtan is a beautiful and highly accessible part of the Bhakti or devotional path of Yoga. In kirtan, the caller (chant leader) sings the divine name and you, the responder, sing it back. Eventually the call and the response become One. Sumukhi chants so that she can serve as a conduit between the endless and the limited, the form and the formless, the divine and the human in all of us. She practices mantra japa (divine repetition of sacred sounds) so that the divine pulsation can become one with her heartbeat. And she loves to share this practice with everyone through kirtan. Website: www.yogafly.com. Sean McCoy is a musician who found himself immersed in Kundalini Yoga, Kirtan and Bhakti and won't stop until everyone is singing with him.
